FCT-Minister-Nyesom-Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, kick-started another round of project inauguration and flag-offs, barely six weeks after concluding a 16-day commissioning exercise in the territory.

The new activities commenced with the inauguration of the rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

According to a statement made available to THE WHISTLER by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant, Public Communications and Social Media to the minister, the exercise will continue on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, with the flag-off of the construction and expansion of water supply to satellite towns, beginning with Lot 1 in Bwari Township, Bwari Area Council.

On Thursday, August 21, the Minister is expected to flag off Lot 2 of the water supply project, covering Karu town and its environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council.

It will be recalled that during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16, 2025, Wike had disclosed that the FCT Administration signed a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 state visit to China, aimed at extending potable water supply to satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.

The Minister further assured them that procurement processes for the extensions were near completion and pledged timely delivery of the projects to boost access to clean water in underserved areas.

Wike reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving critical infrastructure across both the city centre and satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory.
