Wike approves promotion of 49 Deputy Directors in FCTA
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion of 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director in different departments of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The approval followed the release of results from the first-ever computer-based promotion examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University, Duste-Alhaji Centre, in Bwari Area Council on August 12, 2025.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister, the promotion exercise was aimed at clearing the backlog of promotions for workers on Grade Level 16 between 2023 and 2025.
Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, explained that the newly promoted Directors will fill 49 of the 63 vacancies available across different cadres.
He said: “Out of the 49 promoted, the Education Officer Cadre had the highest number with 20 slots, followed by the Accountant Cadre with nine. Some cadres such as Civil Engineer, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers had only one vacancy each.”
Eze added that the Education Officer cadre had the highest number of applicants, with 820 eligible officers competing for 20 vacancies.
“The Admin Cadre had 12 candidates competing for 10 slots.”
Wike had directed that the examination be conducted using a technology-driven method.
The Commission therefore adopted the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model, with 60 percent set as the pass mark.
