We’ll punish erring members, Atiku, Peter Obi, others can return – PDP Southsouth Chair
Emmanuel Ogidi, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, South-South caretaker committee, on Tuesday warned that the party will punish all erring members.
Ogidi, who spoke on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, said this following the outcome of PDP’s National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting.
During the NEC meeting, PDP had zoned its presidential ticket to the South while Umar Damagum was appointed as its substantive National Chairman.
However, Ogidi said Damagum has more responsibility, which includes punishing erring members.
He said: “We will discipline any erring member. Damagum has been given more responsibility yesterday, he knows that he has double responsibilities.
“Now we are doing reconciliation, we are applying the carrot—if it doesn’t work then we are going to apply the big stick.”
He also said the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others who left PDP are welcome to return to the party.
He added: “As for those who have left, like I said, our doors are always open and I believe that they will come back. The time they left, you can’t blame anybody because they were not sure.
“Now that they see that we are serious, you will see the flood, the flood is going to come back. In politics, it’s not like nature, it’s very interesting as you can see people going away and the next time they are all coming back.
“This APC government, with the way they are going, if we don’t take them out there will be no Nigeria left by 2027, so we have to be very serious about this project. It’s not going to be a walk in the park.”
