We won’t relent until victims of Owo terror attack get justice – Aiyedatiwa

Three years after the gruesome attack on worshippers of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo, headquarters of the Owo Local Council Area of Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has disclosed that his administration would not stop in its bid that the victims of the deadly attack get justice.

While describing security as a top priority for the state, Aiyedatiwa emphasised that with scores of worshippers killed by the terrorist, dozens of survivors are still carrying the scars of the attack.

The governor stated this at the weekend while speaking at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Akure, during the 15th Episcopal Anniversary and 35th Priestly Ordination Anniversary of the Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Jude Arogundade.

No fewer than 40 worshippers were killed when assailants, who were armed with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and sophisticated rifles, attacked the church during a morning mass on June 5, 2022.

Aiyedatiwa revealed that security agencies, through collaboration between the federal government and the state, have arrested suspects linked to the attack.

According to the governor, the arrested suspects include Al-Quasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Idris Omeiza, Momoh Abubakar and Abdulhaleem Idris stating that they are currently being prosecuted by the DSS.

“As we continue to seek justice for them (victims), let us stand together against terror’s might and other forms of criminality.

“In unity and love, we will find the strength to heal the wounds, mend broken hearts, and ensure a safer Sunshine State,” he said.

The governor maintained that his administration has continued to invest heavily in security infrastructure with 75 Hilux vehicles, equipped with modern security gadgets recently procured.
