We Will Do More To Win Heart Of Residents, Uzodinma Promises

Governor Uzodinma with the States Commissioner for works and Infrastructural Development, Ralph Nwosu on Inspection at Control Post

The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has promised that during his tenure in office, his government will do more work in the state to win the hearts of residents in the state.

Uzodinma made the statement during the inspection of ongoing urban renewal projects across the state capital, Owerri.

The governor mentioned that part of the visit was to see the extent of work being done, the quality of work, and the speed in preparation for his address to stakeholders during the week preceding January 15th, which is his 5th year in office celebration.

He said, “Part of the reason for this visit is to also see firsthand for me the status of the various construction projects going on in the state in preparation for my address to stakeholders during the week before the January 15th event.

“And from what you have seen, most of the projects in our urban renewal program are making very huge progress.”

Uzodinma, while speaking about the ongoing flyover/interchange at the control post in the state, was to help solve the age-long traffic congestion at that particular spot and stressed that his promise in his second term Inauguration speech at Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri last year of not slowing down is fuelled by the confidence Imolites have in him.

“The whole idea for this particular project is to decongest the gridlock that always creates a lot of stress and inconveniences for travellers coming within the state and outside the state by this roundabout.

“In our urban renewal program, we intend to make vehicular traffic easier, travelling stress-free, and the cost of doing business also easier for the citizens to have a stress-free way of doing their business.

“If you listened to me during the Inauguration of January 15th last year at Dan Anyiam Stadium, I did promise that rather than slow down the speed of progress and construction in the state, I would rather increase the speed given that the confidence building from Imo citizens day by day is on the increase and it is very impressive and it further stimulates my appetite for hard work.

“I think that we have not done badly in the first year of my second term and it is my hope and prayers to Almighty God that we will do more to get the hearts of the people because you see the difference is very clear when you are working; the people know you are working.

“Don’t expect that people must clap for you from January to December all through. Gradually they will begin to see your vision and gradually they will begin to buy into your vision. That way, you will have sustainable confidence building from your people.

“So I think I’m impressed with the quality of construction going on; I’m also impressed by the speed of delivery and I want to thank Almighty God that after the removal of fuel subsidies, the income or revenue for the state has been on the increase.

“For some of us who are God-fearing, it makes us happier when we see that those resources coming from the Federal Government as a result of the subsidy removal have been deployed to tangible projects like covering the infrastructure gap created in the past by high-cost of living and all the rest of the things.

“So I am satisfied with the work that has been done and also happy that Imolite is gradually coming to terms.”

Some of the project site visit includes The DSS road, Control Post, Imo Digital City, and Imo International Conference Center, amongst others
