We want peace not war – Ogun youths protest suspension of community leader

Youths in Orile-Imo community, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, have raised objections over the alleged suspension of their community leader, the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo, Chief Olakunle Olalekan.

The youths while addressing the press on Wednesday, lamented that the action if not promptly resolved will cause needless chaos.

DAILY POST reports that the Olu of Orile Imo, Oba Oluwambe Sogaolu, had announced Chief Olakunle Olalekan’s suspension in a letter signed by the Balogun of Orile Imo, Chief Isiaq Adesanya on Monday.

The letter titled Orile Imo Traditional Council Resolution, dated August 12, 2025, revealed that the suspension followed gross misconduct, non-compliance and non-recognition of the Orile Imo Land constituted authority.

Reacting, youths in the community jointly rejected the suspension and appealed to higher authorities to intervene in order to avoid unrest.

The youth leader, Jimoh Idris, stressed that Chief Olalekan had played a key role in the growth of the town, urging the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, to urgently intervene to avoid crisis.

He said: “We don’t want crisis in Orile-Imo. We learnt that Sogaolu said he has suspended Asiwaju. We, the Orile-Imo youths, are not in support.

“Asiwaju was the one who facilitated the major development in this community, so someone who came yesterday cannot just wake up one day and suspend him. All the youths and other community members are in support of Asiwaju.

“We are crying for help. This community must not experience crisis, we are also appealing to the Alake of Egbaland to wade into this and this is why we have come to the media for Alake to hear this and come to our aid.

“Our position is clear, we want peace, but we cannot fold our arms and watch injustice prevail in our land.”
