We Look Forward To Dismantling Of Atiku’s Coalition – PDP Chair Damagum

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it’s looking forward to the total dismantling of a political coalition recently former by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other politicians from other parties.

Acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, made the declaration during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

“I believe that all of us look forward to the total dismantling of this ill-fated coalition, even as we extend our best wishes to those involved,” Damagum said.

The party chair said the PDP will not lose any sleep over the coalition, which has morphed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Atiku has formally resigned from the PDP and is one of the prime movers of APC.

The ADC is chaired by a former President of the Senate, David Mark, who until recently, was one of the prominent leaders of the PDP.

A former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is the ADC’s National Secretary. Aregbesola used to be a long standing associate of President Bola Tinubu.

He parted ways with Tinubu’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), owing to some irreconcilable differences.

But while speaking at the PDP NEC event, Damagum said, “I must address the matter of a so-called coalition recently formed, which includes some defecting members of our party.

“On this issue, I am pleased to report that this political experiment is nothing to lose sleep over. They say, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

“Some persons have recently learned this truth in the most uncomfortable way. Many who jumped on the coalition bandwagon, have already returned to our fold.

“Some even claim they never left and merely attended a meeting. We accept their confessions without prejudice.”

The party chairman however, said reversal in fortune is not limited to PDP and its members alone.

“Individuals from other political parties who initially joined this coalition, have realised that the venture is ill-fated and their swift return is proof of this.

“It is really sad, not at this particular time, but when ambition beclouds reason, then there is a problem,” Damagum said.

The party chairman boasted that the PDP is poised and ready to take back power.

According to him, it’s the only party with the structure, national acceptability, and legacy capable of bearing the weight of “this great national undertaking.”
