We Achieved Our Objectives This Season – Rivers United Coach

Rivers United coach Finidi George has revealed that the club has achieved its objectives in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season, despite having one more game to play.

The Pride of Rivers will take on Nasarawa United in their last game of the season on May 25, and they will be hoping to consolidate their second position, which guarantees a place in the CAF Champions League.

Rivers United are one point clear of third-placed Abia Warriors in the race for the final Champions League slot.

Finidi said he is happy with the team’s position this season while promising to improve next season to win the title.

He said, “Of course, I said when I signed for Rivers United that the aim is to get a continental ticket, and it’s all playing out.

“I didn’t say I was going to win the league; the aim was the continent, and that is achieved.

“We will go back, be happy about how the season went. It’s not a bad season from what we have done, and all these analyses would be useful for next season.

“We will see where we got it wrong and where Remo took over. We have to give them that commendation. We are happy where we are ending the season, but we will come back stronger next season.”

Meanwhile, Rivers United management has urged the club’s fans to troop out en masse in their last home game against Nasarawa United at the Adokiye Amasimaka Stadium.

The Club took to social media on Tuesday to charge their fans to support the team against Nasarawa United.

The statement read: “We know Sunday’s result wasn’t what we hoped for, but let’s not overlook the significance of what we achieved in Ilorin – we’ve secured a continental ticket!” Rivers United wrote on their Facebook page.

“This is a huge milestone for our club, and we’re proud of everyone who’s contributed to this success.

“While we may have missed out on the league title, our focus now shifts to sealing a CAF Champions League spot on Match Day 38. Let’s come together as a team and push for a win against Nasarawa United. We’re close, and with our collective effort, we can make it happen!”

Finidi led Enyimba to the NPFL title in 2023 before joining Rivers United after his brief spell in charge of the national team.

The former Super Eagles coach has recorded 17 wins, 10 draws, and 10 defeats in 37 Nigeria Premier Football League matches this season.
