Ward Congresses: PDP will give APC run for its money in 2027 elections – Aziegbemi
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said with the current unity within its fold, it will give the All Progressives Congress, APC, a run for its money, come the 2027 general elections in the state.
The State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi made the remarks on Saturday in Benin City while monitoring the party’s ward congresses to elect new executives and delegates across the 192 wards in the state.
Aziegbemi, who expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of party members who defied the heavy downpour, noted that the party is rising again in the state with the development.
He also expressed confidence that the abysmal failure of the APC government, both at the federal and state levels, would pave the way for the PDP to reclaim Edo in 2027.
According to him, from what we saw, we are so excited and happy and cannot thank PDP members in the state enough for their enthusiasm.
“The party’s faithful and members defied the heavy downpour to participate in the ward congresses to elect new executives and delegates across the 192 wards of the state.
“I’ll be very honest with you, I was a little bit jittery when I went with the panel to witness some of the wards. I didn’t know what to expect.
“But I was pleasantly surprised with the way the PDP faithful came out in the rain. As early as 7:30 a.m., people were already at the grounds to cast their votes. We think the PDP is rising, and we believe we will give the APC a run for its money.
“The congresses were very peaceful. Members of the PDP were very vibrant, very active, and they elected the 17-member executive in the various wards we attended.
“I am confident that the abysmal failure of the government, both at the federal and state levels, will pave the way for PDP to reclaim Edo in 2027″, he said.
Aziegbemi noted that he was initially unsure of what to expect at the congress, but said that he was moved by the commitment of members who braved the rain.
The party chairman, opined that the turnout reflected the party’s resilience and rising strength.
DAILY POST, which monitored the congress at Oredo Wards I, II, and III in Benin City, added that the exercise was peaceful, with enthusiastic party members turning out to cast their votes.
On his part, the Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress Electoral Committee, Tariga Tulagha, commended the peaceful conduct and unity displayed by party members.
Tulagha, who dismissed the speculations of the internal crisis in the party noted that unity was evident in the outcome of the polls
“We went out for the purpose of conducting the elections for officers and delegates across all wards.
“So far, the exercise has been peaceful. There was no trouble, and there was full compliance with the provisions of the law. Despite the rain, people came out in their numbers, and we were impressed.
“We observed a unity of purpose. If there was division, it would have reflected during the voting process. So, the issue of factions does not apply here”, he added.
