WAFCON 2024: Two teams qualify for semi-final
At least two teams qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, on Friday.
In the first quarter-final fixture, Nigeria produced a commanding performance as they thrashed Zambia 5-0.
Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring as early as the second minute of the game, heading in a free-kick past Petronella Musole.
The Super Falcons doubled their advantage through Esther Okoronkwo. It was 3-0 when both teams went in for the half-time break, thanks to Chinwendu Ihezuo.
Oluwatosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi added two more goals in the second half.
The Falcons will play either Senegal or South Africa for a place in the final.
The second quarter-final saw Morocco defeat Mali 3-1.
Ibtissam Jraidi scored twice, before Kenza Chapelle got the third goal. Aissata Traore’s penalty was a mere consolation.
The Atlas Lionesses will take on either Ghana or Algeria in the semi-final.
