Village head in detention over alleged rape of 12-year-old girl
The Police Command in Gombe State on Tuesday said a 55-year-old village head from Zambuk community, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state is currently in detention.
The Public Relations Officer of the Gombe command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a press statement said the suspect allegedly defiled a 12-year-old girl in the same area.
Abdullahi said the incident was reported at Zambuk Police Division on Saturday, leading to the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
He said upon the receipt of the report, “police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect, stating that investigation is still ongoing.
The command’s spokesperson, who condemned all forms of sexual violence, called on residents to promptly report cases for swift action.
Also, Abdullahi said that personnel of the command recovered vandalised electric cables, iron pipes and railway track bolts in Bajoga Town in Funakaye LGA of the state.
He further stated that an 18-year-old suspect, a wanted armed robber in Kwadom Community of Yamaltu/Deba LGA was also arrested.
Abdullahi said the suspect allegedly confessed to taking part in two armed robbery cases now pending before the Gombe High Court.
He said the suspect was arrested and recovered exhibit transferred to the Anti-Violence Squad Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
