The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that it has not resolved issues with Chinedu Okeke, the top UTME scorer, who has been embroiled in controversy over alleged discrepancies in his personal details.
In a statement posted on X platform on Tuesday, JAMB described as “malicious falsehood” claims that issues concerning Okeke have been resolved.
The board expressed alarm at the lengths to which some individuals will go to gain attention on social media.
” We are alarmed by the lengths to which some individuals will go to gain attention on social media. Does character mean nothing to people anymore? This will be the last time that we will be reacting to this type of falsehood, we have had enough and we won’t allow anybody thrive on our shoulders.
“JAMB is a statutory body not a political party. We won’t sit idly by while some individuals use our platform to play sectional politics as well as draw social media traffic,” JAMB asked.
The board stated that Okeke claimed to be from Lagos State in 2021 but later claimed to be from Anambra State in 2025, and that he is currently a 400-level medical student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but attempted to register for another course in 2025.
JAMB emphasised its commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that it will not sweep issues under the rug.
The board also added that it will partner with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to ensure the integrity of candidates’ data.
“We are committed to transparency and do not sweep issues under the rug,” JAMB stated.
The board warned that it will not be swayed by attention-seekers and will continue to perform its duty to ensure that candidates who aspire to leadership roles act with integrity.
Recall that JAMB had earlier released a statement detailing the facts surrounding Okeke’s case, including his alleged change of details and his current status as a medical student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The board stated that Okeke took advantage of Lagos State’s quota in 2021, thereby obstructing the admission opportunities for other deserving candidates from the state.
It added that Okeke further attempted to manipulate his details with the NIMC to unjustly claim representation from Anambra State in 2025.
JAMB stated that it will continue to treat Okeke with dignity as a bona fide student of one of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
“As of now, the university has not stated anything to the contrary. Once we receive such confirmation, we will promptly notify the Medical and Dental Council to consider delisting him, until that is done, the Board would continue to treat Chinedu with all the dignity he deserves as a bona fide student of one of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions,” the statement said.
The board emphasised its commitment to ensuring that candidates who aspire to leadership roles act with integrity and character.
