US shuts down its embassy in Nigeria to honour late president Buhari

The United Sates mission in Nigeria has announced the closure of its embassy in Abuja and the consulate general in Lagos on Tuesday, July 15

It makes the decision as a mark of respect for the late former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.

This comes in response to a national public holiday declared by the Nigerian government to mourn the former leader who died in London on Sunday after a brief illness.

He is expected to be laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday.

Via its official X handle on Monday, the US Mission confirmed the temporary suspension of all services, including visa appointments scheduled for that day.

The mission added that all affected visa appointments will be rescheduled and that normal consular operations will resume on Wednesday, July 16.
