US Embassy Issues Restrictions To Citizens Over Deepening Global Threats
The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert urging American citizens to avoid non-essential visits to military and government facilities in Abuja due to rising global threats.
In a statement released on Monday, the embassy announced that all staff and their families are currently barred from visiting such sites except for official duties.
“Due to increased security concerns arising from current global developments, the US Mission in Nigeria informs US citizens that all embassy employees and their families are prohibited from non-official travel to Nigerian military sites or other government venues in Abuja at this time,” the alert stated.
The advisory follows international developments that have triggered heightened security measures at sensitive locations.
Though not explicitly stated, the United States’ involvement in the ongoing Israel-Iran war, marked by its recent strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran, has likely made it a target for Iranian retaliation, as Iran has vowed to respond.
US citizens in Nigeria were urged to remain vigilant, especially in areas popular with Westerners, expatriates, and government officials.
