Ukraine Attacks Russian Refinery, Others With 361 Drones

Ukraine launched a large-scale overnight drone attack on Russia, sending at least 361 drones toward multiple targets.

The targets included the Kirishi oil refinery, one of the country’s most important energy facilities.

According to Russian officials, a brief fire broke out at the refinery but led to no injuries. Russia’s defense ministry confirmed that its air defences intercepted hundreds of aerial threats, including guided bombs and a U.S.-supplied HIMARS missile.

While exact details on all impacted locations remain unclear, authorities confirmed that the Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery, owned by Surgutneftegaz and located in the Leningrad region, was among the targets.

Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the Leningrad region, said three drones were destroyed near the refinery and that debris from the interception caused a short-lived fire.

Ukraine’s drone command later claimed responsibility for the strike, calling it a “successful operation” against one of Russia’s most important energy facilities.

The refinery processes approximately 355,000 barrels of crude per day, accounting for over 6% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity.

Elsewhere in Russia, a drone strike targeted an oil facility in the Bashkortostan region, but production is expected to continue unaffected, according to the governor.

The attack comes as western countries debate on how to bring an end to the largest conflict in Europe since World War II.

The attack also adds pressure to ongoing international discussions over energy sanctions. President Donald Trump on Saturday pushed NATO allies to cease all purchases of Russian oil and hinted at the possibility of fresh U.S. sanctions if coordinated action is not taken.

Despite American pressure, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to phasing out Russian fossil fuel imports by 2028, resisting calls to accelerate the timeline.
