Udom Emmanuel Did Not Steal N700bn From Akwa Ibom State – Eno

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has stoutly defended his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, stating that allegations of N700bn are false and unfounded.

He said Emmanuel did not steal N700bn from the state as alleged.

Recall the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC) had quizzed the former governor to respond to a petition by a Non-Governmental Organisation over allegations of fraud and embezzlement.

Emmanuel who honoured the invitation by the EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed the figures and allegations describing them as unknown to his government.

Speaking during the just concluded Town Hall meeting with the people of Abak Federal Constituency at the Abak Township Stadium, Eno said his successor served the State meritoriously and deserved gratitude.

According to him, the allegations of misappropriation of N700bn are not only false, spurious but totally unfounded.

“Because at the end of the day, the people don’t show you that gratitude.

“When a man has served his state meritoriously like Mr. Udom Emmanuel did, honestly, he should be honoured, he should be respected.

“And so I don’t see a place for this kind of information that is going on. It’s not correct.

“I don’t believe it should go on. I don’t believe so. So, I don’t know where they get the figures from. I don’t know where they churn it out from, but I can tell you as a sitting Governor, that it is not correct.

“It is not true. The media trial must and should stop forthwith. And we need to dismiss this issue with a pinch of salt”, the Governor added.

He asserted that respected leaders, like Emmanuel and others who have served their state diligently, deserve recognition rather than vilification.

Emphasizing his stance, Eno said, “I don’t see a place for this kind of media trial; it is not correct – I don’t believe it should go on. It is not correct, it is not truthful, and we need to dismiss it, ” he said.
