UBEC Trains 1,250 Sokoto Teachers On Word Pronunciations, Others
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), on Wednesday, began a three-day training of 1,250 primary school teachers on modern teaching skills and word pronunciations in Sokoto State.
The training is organised in collaboration with the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and facilitated by a private firm, Universal Learning Solutions (ULS).
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the three-day training, the Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Umaru Nagwari, said the training was a significant step aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the state.
Nagwari, represented by the SUBEB’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Ahmad Wamakko, said the capacity-building initiative aimed to expose teachers to modern best practices.
He emphasised the critical roles school teachers play in shaping the educational system, adding that effective learning and teaching skills were pivotal to achieving academic excellence.
The Board Chairman expressed appreciation to the facilitators and enjoined the participating teachers to practise the new ideas learnt on teaching students as well as educate fellow colleagues.
In his remarks, Head of the ULS facilitators’ team, Mr Abbas Muhammad, said the training was organised in three centres and participating teachers were selected from the 23 local government areas of the state.
Muhammad, an Education Specialist and Literacy Project Manager of ULS, explained that the training centred on the Jolly Phonics Initiative, Sound and Pronunciation techniques.
He added that targeted students were those in early child care development centres and primary one, two and three students across the state.
He said that working modules and other instructional materials would be provided for beneficiaries for a smooth takeoff of the exercise.
He charged the participants to apply the knowledge acquired to transform their schools and described the training as a crucial investment in the future of the state’s educational system.
The teachers were grouped in classes, and the training included demonstrations, field exercises and video presentations.
