The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has commended Bauchi State’s “Mega” schools, describing them as comparable to smart schools due to their state-of-the-art facilities and innovative learning environments.

The UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, made the commendation during Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s visit to the UBEC headquarters in Abuja.

Garba commended the governor’s commitment to improving basic education in the state, noting that the “Mega” schools were a testament to the state’s dedication to providing quality education.

However, Garba also emphasised the need for quality teachers to match the state’s infrastructure.

“Bauchi State stands out not just for accessing its UBEC matching grants but for utilizing them effectively to drive real change,” she said. “But we must also prioritize the recruitment and training of quality teachers to maximize the benefits of these infrastructure developments.”

The governor, who was accompanied by his aides, expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening basic education in the state.

He noted that the state has been a significant beneficiary of UBEC’s initiatives, particularly the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program.

Mohammed emphasised the importance of foundational learning, stating, “Without basic education, nothing works.”

He reiterated that his government remains resolute in advancing the basic education sector, describing it as the bedrock of societal transformation.

Speaking on Bauchi State’s educational reach, the Governor remarked, “Bauchi is one of the biggest states with access to education, so we also accommodate neighbouring states.”
