As Governor Ahmed Aliyu marks two years in office, his administration’s security efforts have drawn widespread praise, particularly for its impact in stabilizing Sokoto’s violence-hit eastern corridor.
The Special Adviser on Security, Col. Ahmed Usman (Rtd), presented a comprehensive scorecard highlighting major achievements in restoring peace to the troubled region.
He said Governor Aliyu came into office on the back of a firm promise to restore peace and security in the state and has made security the top priority of his administration’s nine-point smart and innovative development agenda.
According to him, the governor has launched a series of aggressive and coordinated measures to combat banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and insurgency threats that have long plagued the eastern region. This includes responding to recent incursions by the Lakurawa terror group.
He said other key interventions include the distribution of hundreds of patrol vehicles and motorcycles to security agencies, and the reinstatement of monthly operational allowances for security personnel, which had been halted by the previous administration.
The S. A stated that in a landmark initiative, Governor Aliyu has established the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, a homegrown security outfit designed to work alongside conventional forces.
“To further enhance coordination, a Special Security Committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir and comprising traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, and other key stakeholders, was constituted. The committee meets regularly to assess and address emerging security threats. I serve as the secretary of this committee, and the government has consistently acted on our recommendations.”
He highlighted how the government established an air component for OpAchievementseration Fansan Yamma as a major step in enhancing rapid aerial response to security threats.
“The administration also launched Operation Restore Order, a joint task force funded by the state government and comprising the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Community Guard Corps, and local vigilante networks”.
“Between May 22 and 25, 2025, the task force carried out a series of high-impact clearance and stabilization operations in Gundumi forest of Isa LGA and Kakara forest “
The operations lead to the interception of three motorcycles suspected to be transporting logistics for bandits. Items recovered included pain relief drugs, cigarettes, and maintenance kits. A follow-up operation in Indulumu Village led to the neutralization of six bandits and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, three motorcycles, and a desert camouflage uniform.
While in the raid at Kakara forest ten bandits were neutralized, and four AK-47 rifles, two empty magazines, and 57 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.
Follow-up operations extended to Takalmawa, Dogon Hannu, Gidan Da Tsawo, Tafkin Fili, and Garin Shado, all in Isa LGA.
Residents of the affected communities said the activities of the security operative have significantly curb the menace of insurgency in the region
