Godwin Kumfa, a 2-year-old boy, lost his life, when he drowned in Meme river, phase 11 area of Lokoja, capital of Kogi state.
The incident was said to have happened at about 7:30 a.m on Monday, according to a source.

The father of the victim, Mr Mamtip Kumfa, a security guard at a private school in Lokoja was said to have received a call from neighbours in the morning that the boy was missing, he quickly returned home to find his wife searching for his boy.

His wife, Mrs Lovina Kumfa, explained to him that she left the deceased sitting by the river bank while she was collecting sand from the river but when she returned, she could not find him.

According to the wife, “When herself and the husband started looking for the boy, they later found one of his shoes near Arigbede, about 15km downstream from our house.”

She lamented that she is lost as Godwin is her only son and cried uncontrollably, pleading for help and divine intervention.

She sobbed, “I left him just for a while. When I came back, he was gone and do not know where he is. Please God, help me find my child.”

Also, a family friend, who confirmed the incident, explained that they searched the river, but could only find the boy’s shoes, with no trace of him or his corpse.

The state police command’s spokesman, SP William Aya, had yet to confirm the incident.
