Two Herdsmen Among Kidnap Victims Rescued In Kebbi
The police on Tuesday said they rescued five kidnapped victims, including two herdsmen who were abducted while grazing cattle in Zamfara State.
The victims were rescued during anti-crime operations across Kebbi and Abia States.
The most recent operation occurred on August 15, 2025, when police officers attached to Kebbi State Command encountered armed bandits during a routine patrol around Dankade Village in Ribah District, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
After a brief exchange of fire, the operatives rescued two herdsmen, Tukur Bello (26) and Isyaka Abubakar (25), who had been kidnapped on August 9 while grazing cattle in Gairi Forest, Zamfara State.
In an earlier operation, the police rescued three victims following a coordinated search-and-rescue mission.
On July 27, 2025, armed kidnappers had reportedly invaded Sangara Village in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State and abducted three individuals, Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35).
Police operatives, working with other security agencies and local vigilantes, tracked the gang to Shanga Hills, where they engaged the criminals in a gun battle.
According to force spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the kidnappers fled into the forest with gunshot wounds, leaving behind the three victims, who were rescued alive.
Meanwhile, in Abia State, police operatives stormed a kidnapper’s hideout at Umuiku Obete Village in Ukwa West Local Government Area.
The gang, which had reportedly terrorised residents and commuters along Umuozo Village and Uratta Road off Port Harcourt Road, engaged the police in a shootout.
According to Adejobi, the police uncovered a large cache of arms and tools, including six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of live ammunition, 14 magazines, five mobile phones, three cutlasses, five operational jackets, an axe, a pair of boots, a polo charm, and a double-barrelled long gun.
He said follow-up operations are underway to arrest the fleeing members of the group.
