Two Dead, Others Rescued In Kano Building Collapse

At least two persons have reportedly died in Nomansland, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, after a two-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.

Two other persons were rescued alive from the rubble and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The building was said to have collapsed around 2 a.m. during a heavy downpour. Reports indicate that the building was located near the waterway.

Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, who confirmed the incident, said that search and rescue operations are ongoing.

“Two people have been rescued alive, and unfortunately, we’ve recovered two bodies. The operation continues to ensure no one is left behind,” he said.

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency had on Wednesday revealed that 31 people had died, and 5,280 houses destroyed due to recent flooding in the state.

Building collapse has become a disturbing trend in parts of the country. Experts have called on the government to take immediate action to improve regulatory oversight and ensure compliance with safety standards.
