Trump releases Martin Luther King Jr assassination files

The President Donald Trump administration has published records about the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Despite the concerns expressed by King Jr’s family, the files were released on Monday.

“The American people have waited nearly sixty years to see the full scope of the federal government’s investigation into Dr. King’s assassination,” Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, confirmed in a statement.

Gabbard also noted that 230,000 pages of documents have been released “with minimal redactions for privacy reasons.”

After coming into office earlier this year, Trump signed an executive order declassifying files on the 1960s assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy, and King.

In March, the National Archives released records from John F. Kennedy’s assassination, which happened in November 1963. They then published files related to the June 1968 murder of Robert F. Kennedy in April.
