Troops neutralize armed militia while attempting to disarm soldiers in Plateau
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, in conjunction with the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army have neutralised an armed militia who attempted to disarm a soldier during a follow-up operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Media Information Officer of OPEP, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, who confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, said the incident occurred following the arrest of the suspect on September 4, 2025, at Kaskra, Barkin Ladi LGA.
According to Maj. Zhakom, the suspected militia was found in possession of one AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in several criminal activities in the council and volunteered to lead troops to the hideout of his cohorts with the aim of recovering more weapons.
However, in the process of leading to troops to the hideout, the suspect made attempts to seize the rifle of a soldier in a bid to escape but the troops responded swiftly by neutralising him in the process.
Maj. Zhakom also reaffirmed the commitment of troops under the OPEP to rid Plateau State and surrounding areas of criminal elements and will not relent until the entire Joint Operations Area is fully secured.
