Troops foil terrorist attacks in Sokoto, Katsina, rescue efforts ongoing
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have thwarted terrorist attacks in Sokoto and Katsina States, the Defence Headquarters has confirmed.
In Sokoto State, security forces responded swiftly to reports of terrorist activities in Dundaye village, Augie Local Government Area, on August 29.
According to Zagazola Makama, the assailants killed two locals and rustled an unspecified number of cattle before escaping ahead of the troops’ arrival.
“Troops immediately pursued the terrorists but no contact was made,” the sources revealed.
Later the same day, at about 10:50 p.m., troops of the 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base Malumfashi in Katsina State engaged terrorists at Maraban Kankara, Malumfashi Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to retreat. However, locals reported that two women were abducted from the village during the assault.
The sources further disclosed that other sectors within the Joint Operations Area remained calm, with no major incidents recorded.
