Tricycle Union Nabs Member After Absconding With Passenger’s Luggage

Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, has apprehended a tricycle operator identified as Mr. Ude Nkama, who allegedly made away with a passenger’s belongings in Aba.

The incident occurred when the operator picked up a female passenger from a park in Aba and subsequently absconded with her items after a disagreement.

Rather than reporting the issue to the union as required, the rider allegedly chose to disappear with the passenger’s property, a violation of ASTOPU’s operational code and a criminal offence under state law.

Following the incident, the Union’s Director of Operations (DoP), Mr. Felix Obioma Nwaguru, launched an immediate investigation. The rider was initially given a 24-hour ultimatum to report to the union but failed to do so.

The breakthrough came when a vigilant ticketing officer in the Aba South Chapter of ASTOPU identified the tricycle’s plate number, which had earlier been submitted to the Union’s Directorate.

This discovery prompted Nwaguru to escalate the case to the Zonal Chairman of ASTOPU, Hon. Victor Azubuike, who promptly contacted law enforcement authorities.

Following the collaborative effort, Nkama was tracked down and arrested.

The Union has, however, reassured the public that misconduct will not be tolerated and that all riders would uphold the values of integrity and responsibility while in service.
