Transfer: Two reasons why Arsenal abandoned Sesko to sign Gyokeres

Arsenal have decided to sign Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres instead of RB Leipzig striker, Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko almost joined the Gunners last year but eventually signed a new contract with the Bundesliga side.

Mikel Arteta tried to get the Slovenia international in January and failed, before going back this summer.

New Arsenal Sporting Director, Andrea Berta, appeared to be making progress in talks with Leipzig but appears to have now walked away.

According to The Independent, Arsenal were still at least €10m away from meeting Leipzig’s asking price and were unhappy with the structure of an €80m deal.

Also, agreeing on personal terms with Sesko’s representatives was also becoming difficult.

With Arteta desperate for a new centre forward to ariive before their pre-season tour, the decision was taken to switch focus to Gyokeres.
