Transfer: Gyokeres’ move to Arsenal set to collapse
Viktor Gyökeres’ proposed move from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal has stalled due to a disagreement over the player’s valuation during ongoing negotiations.
Arsenal have prioritised the Swedish striker over Benjamin Šeško in their continued search for a centre-forward this summer. Gyökeres is understood to have agreed a five-year deal with the North London club and has been awaiting a resolution between the two clubs over the transfer fee.
However, fresh reports suggest that talks have reached an impasse and the move is now at risk of collapse.
According to Record, discussions have not progressed since the weekend, with both clubs entrenched in their respective positions over the valuation of the player.
Gyökeres reportedly believes he has a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave for €60 million, plus an additional €10 million in bonuses (£51.7 million plus £8.6 million). Sporting, however, appear to dispute this interpretation.
Arsenal are said to have tabled an offer worth €65 million, plus €15 million in add-ons (£56 million plus £12.9 million), but Sporting are now holding out for a fixed €70 million (£60.4 million), resisting any performance-based components.
Following the deadlock, Arsenal’s representatives have reportedly returned to London from Lisbon without a deal in place.
The Premier League side are now believed to be reassessing their position and could walk away from the deal entirely unless Sporting shift their stance in subsequent talks.
