Transfer Alert: Super Eagles’ Joe Aribo Set for New Challenge Away from Southampton
Gifted Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo is allegedly close to quitting Southampton of the English Championship in search of a fresh challenge in his career.
Joining the Saints from Rangers in 2022, the 28-year-old has had difficulty securing a consistent starting position, especially following the team’s Premier League relegation in the previous season.
According to English reports, Southampton is considering offers for the Nigerian international, and several European and Middle Eastern clubs are reportedly keeping an eye on him.
Despite having a strong start to his Southampton career, Aribo—who is noted for his versatility in both attacking and midfield roles—has seen little playing time under current manager Russell Martin.
Before Nigeria’s next international matches and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, a move this summer might give him the chance to play more frequently.
According to manager Will Still, Aribo’s time with the team is coming to an end. His statement prior to Southampton’s match against Wrexham was a reaffirmation of the former Charlton star’s resolve to relocate.
“There are a few players who are where they’re at in their careers and making choices. Tyler [Dibling], Sam [Edozie], and Joe [Aribo] won’t be there [vs. Wrexham],” he stated.
