Accident

At least 30 people were injured on Friday after a passenger train derailed along the Kerman-Zarand railway in southern Iran, local media reported.

The head of the Red Crescent Society’s Relief and Rescue Organisation, Babak Mahmoudi, confirmed the incident to Mehr news agency, stating that emergency teams responded swiftly to the scene.

Authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded, adding that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to a statement from the national railway authority published by Tasnim news agency, all passengers were safely evacuated after rescue and technical teams arrived promptly.

Although such accidents are not rare in Iran, they are often non-fatal. However, deadly incidents have occurred in the past.

In June 2022, 21 people were killed when a train struck an excavator and derailed near Tabas. Another major tragedy in 2016 saw 44 people killed when two trains collided in northern Iran.
