Tinubu’s 2027 Endorsements Based On Achievements, Not Opposition Fear – Kalu
Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that the wave of endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid is grounded in the President’s bold reforms and commitment to nation-building—not fear of any opposition alliance.
Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the former Governor of Abia State dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is orchestrating early endorsements out of anxiety over possible opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“No, no, no. I don’t think a party like APC has anybody to fear. We are the ruling party. We love Nigeria,” Kalu stated.
“That’s why many of us are building industries across the country to create jobs even outside the government.”
According to the former Senate Chief Whip, the APC remains confident in its position and focused on delivering governance, not engaging in political panic.
“There’s no fear at all. We are the ruling party, and we love Nigeria. The opposition must fight. That’s their job. But our job is to deliver, and we are doing our job perfectly well,” he added.
“In the coming years, Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing.”
Addressing criticism surrounding President Tinubu’s attendance at the recent papal inauguration at the Vatican, Kalu explained that the visit was made at the personal invitation of the Pope.
“The Pope personally invited him. He would have disrespected 1.8 billion Catholics by refusing,” Kalu said, adding, “Mr. President is not just a Muslim; he is also a global leader. Respecting a papal invitation is beyond religion.”
Kalu also addressed the Southeast’s stance within the APC, revealing that the region’s caucus had endorsed Tinubu weeks before other endorsements surfaced nationally.
“We endorsed him weeks ago, chaired by Governor Hope Uzodinma and co-chaired by the Governor of Ebonyi and the Deputy Speaker,” he noted, proudly referring to the initiative as a Southeast-led endorsement effort.
The APC senator lauded President Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate, describing them as courageous and necessary for Nigeria’s long-term stability.
“I’m not a politician. I’m a businessman. And this is the first President who ended the cheap money culture. People made money from nothing before. This President is telling us: make money the right way or don’t make it at all,” Kalu asserted.
While acknowledging current economic hardship, he emphasized that the long-term benefits of Tinubu’s policies are already beginning to manifest at the macroeconomic level and will gradually reach ordinary Nigerians.
“Tinubu is not just a Southern President. He will be re-elected by both North and South because it’s in the national interest. We don’t want the country to break; we want it to thrive,” Kalu said.
On his personal political future, Kalu affirmed his commitment to serving his constituents with integrity. He emphasized that while infrastructure and education have been his major focus, he plans to prioritize agriculture from 2027 onward.
“My passion has always been service to the people. Come 2027, agriculture will be a key focus. Food security and youth employment will drive our agenda,” he said.
