President Bola Tinubu has ordered the expedited implementation of free healthcare access for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

According to Tinubu, the initiative is vital for upholding the social protection and dignity of Nigerian retirees.

The president also directed the prompt execution of long-delayed pension increases and the establishment of a minimum pension guarantee aimed at safeguarding the welfare of the most vulnerable pensioners in the CPS.

Tinubu issued the directives after a briefing at the State House by the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran.

During the meeting, Tinubu demanded urgent resolution of the lingering issue of police pensions, saying officers who serve and protect the country deserve to retire in dignity and peace.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said Oloworaran briefed the president on a series of ongoing reforms designed to preserve the value of pension fund assets amid inflation and other macroeconomic challenges.

She also outlined plans to introduce foreign currency contributions to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the national pension system.

Tinubu, according to Onanuga, expressed support for the reforms and reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and the protection of ordinary Nigerians.
