‘Tinubu hiding something’ – Aisha questions alleged crackdown on investigative journalists

Popular socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has questioned the rationale behind the arrest of investigative journalists in the country.

Aisha, who was reacting to the recent arrest of an investigative journalist and whistle-blower @PIDOMNIGERIA by the Nigeria Police Force, asked President Bola Tinubu to reveal what he is hiding from Nigerians.

DAILY POST reports that the whistleblower, who had uncovered and leaked several secret memos from both the government and private establishments, was arrested in Rivers State on August 5.

The arrest, which was confirmed by the police on August 24, has been raising dust, particularly on social media, with Nigerians calling for his immediate release.

Speaking on the matter, Aisha Yesufu, in a video clip on her official X handle on Monday, wondered why a journalist would be “arrested and dehumanized worse than a terrorist”.

She said, “When did investigative journalism become a crime? When did revealing the wrong doings of the government become a crime?

“Is it not the wrong doing that is supposed to be a crime? With the arrest of @PIDOMNIGERIA as well as harassment of investigative journalist, it is safe to say that Tinubu is very much aware of all the wrong doings in his illegitimate government.

“He wants to ensure that none of these activities are brought to light. Mr Tinubu, what are you hiding, why are you angry that wrong doings are being exposed by journalists.

“Why are you not focused on correcting the wrong doings and giving the people good governance.”
