Tinubu Hails Young Nigerian On Winning UK’s Top Cybersecurity Award

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Dr Fene Osakwe on winning the Cyber Personality of the Year award at the 2025 Cyber Security Awards in the UK.

Osakwe, who is the chairman of the Lagos State Cybersecurity Advisory Board, is reportedly the first African to win in the cyber security awards category.

He was recognised for his exceptional leadership, advocacy, and expertise in cybersecurity and data privacy, clinching the prize ahead of other finalists from the United States, the UAE, Qatar, the Netherlands, and the UK.

Tinubu acknowledged Osakwe’s achievements and contributions to cybersecurity in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.

The president described the recipient as “an exceptional Nigerian and a worthy representation of Nigeria’s talented, innovative, and pace-setting youth.”

Tinubu, who reaffirmed that the youth remain Nigeria’s greatest asset, said Osakwe’s nomination and subsequent win “foreground the global impact of young African professionals in cybersecurity.”

The president wished Osakwe more success in his endeavours.

Established in 2014, the Cyber Security Awards honour outstanding individuals, teams, and organizations across the global cybersecurity landscape.

As an independent event, it operates without affiliations to magazines, organizations, or products, and ensures that winners are selected on merit.

In 2022, Osakwe was accepted into Forbes Technology Council, which is an invitation-only community for chief information officers, chief technology officers, and other technology executives.
