KADUNA-STATE-

Three people have been convicted of rape and sentenced to death by hanging in Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development said it secured the convictions and gave their names as John Moses, Yakubu Mohammed, and Mustapha Musa.

The state Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, told journalists on Wednesday, the ministry secured the convictions in 2024.

“We are pleased to announce that we have secured three convictions for rape charges in the past year. This is a major milestone in our quest to curb rape and other forms of violence against women and children in Kaduna State,” she said.

Hajiya Salisu described the convictions as a positive development, hoping they would serve as a deterrent to others.

“We hope that these convictions will serve as a deterrent to others who may be contemplating committing similar crimes,” she said.

The convictions were secured through the following cases:”State Vs. John Moses: John Moses was convicted on June 7, 2024, for rape and incest, and sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration.

“State Vs. Yakubu Mohammed: Yakubu Mohammed was convicted on February 6, 2025, for rape, and sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration.

“State Vs. Mustapha Musa: Mustapha Musa was convicted on February 24, 2025, for rape, and sentenced to life imprisonment.”

The cases were handled by M.P. Danjuma Esq. and Halimatu S. Bello Esq.

The Commissioner commended the judiciary for its role in ensuring that justice is served.

“We commend the judiciary for its role in ensuring that justice is served. We also commend the police and other law enforcement agencies for their efforts in investigating and prosecuting these cases,” she said.

The commissioner also called on members of the public to report cases of rape and other forms of violence to the authorities.

“We urge members of the public to report cases of rape and other forms of violence to the authorities. We also urge victims of rape and other forms of violence to come forward and seek help,” she said.
