Three killed, scores injured as gunmen attack another Plateau community
Three people have been confirmed killed, with scores of others injured and properties worth millions of naira destroyed, following an attack carried out by suspected Fulani militia at Gwon-Rim village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, according to some of the residents of the community, occurred on Wednesday morning when the heavily armed gunmen, numbering over 50, invaded the village and began shooting sporadically.
They were also said to have set houses and vehicles ablaze and looted shops, food barns, and stolen livestock while the villagers fled into the bushes for safety.
Chairman of Riyom LGA, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, who confirmed the attack after he visited the community for an on-the-spot assessment, condemned the incident, describing it as uncalled for, unprovoked, and unacceptable.
He, however, advised the residents of the community to remain calm and assured them that he had directed security operatives to track down the perpetrators and ensure their arrest.
He also pledged his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property before proceeding to the hospital to visit the injured, who are currently receiving treatment.
