Three people were killed and five others injured after multiple gunmen opened fire at a restaurant in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday night, according to authorities.

The shooting took place around 7:45 p.m. local time (03:45am GMT +1), at El Camarón Gigante, a steakhouse located near the Glendale Police Department headquarters, according to CBS.

The establishment was reportedly hosting a family-friendly Cinco de Mayo celebration at the time of the attack.

According to police spokesperson Officer Moroni Mendez, investigators believe more than one shooter was involved.

While several individuals have been detained for questioning, the motive for the attack remains unclear.

“There are three dead people from this incident, and five other victims sustained some sort of injury from either shrapnel or gunshot wounds,” Mendez said during a press briefing.

He added that authorities had not determined whether the shooters were known to one another or were part of rival groups.

A witness told local media he heard more than 20 gunshots for 15–20 seconds, followed by a brief pause and another round of gunfire.

“I heard people yelling out names,” said Lupe Rodriguez, who was near the scene.

“There was a man on the ground and it didn’t look like he made it,” he added.

According to NBC News, Victims were seen receiving urgent medical care at the scene, with some taken away on stretchers. The conditions of the injured have not been publicly disclosed.

Police emphasised that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the scene is now secure. Investigators are expected to work through the night to process the area, which Mendez described as an “enormous scene.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage from the incident to come forward.
