Chairman of the Taraba State Sports Council, Barrister Jime Yongo, has hailed both the Taraba State House of Assembly and Governor Agbu Kefas for the recent passage and signing into law of the Sports Commission Bill.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday, Yongo described the development as a significant milestone for the growth and professionalization of sports in the state.

“The unanimous support of the House and the swift assent by governor Kefas reflect a deep commitment to the future of sports in Taraba,” Yongo stated.

He also applauded Kefas for the opportunity given to him (Yongo) to serve, noting that the administration’s proactive stance on youth and sports development has breathed new life into the sector.

“I am always ready to give my all to the development of sports in Taraba State. am proud to work under the leadership of a governor who genuinely supports the growth of youth and sports,” he said.

Yongo pointed to the state’s recent involvement in high profile national competitions including the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and the current National Youth Games as evidence of Taraba’s renewed momentum in sports.

Despite these achievements, Yongo stressed that the responsibility for developing sports should not rest solely on government.

He appealed to private sector organizations and non-governmental bodies to invest in grassroots initiatives and support sporting activities across the state.

Reaffirming the Sports Council’s commitment to driving progress, Yongo called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to unlock the full potential of Taraba’s youth through sustained investment and structured programs in the sports sector.
