Taraba PDP governorship aspirant resigns from party
A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has officially resigned from the party, citing unresolved internal crises and mounting pressure from his supporters.
In a letter dated Sunday and addressed to the Chairman of PDP in Zing AII Ward, in Zing local government council of the state, Nyameh announced that his resignation takes immediate effect, stating that he had been a committed member of the party since 1999.
The academic-turned-politician explained that his decision followed persistent calls from supporters across the 168 wards in the state, who expressed growing unease over the party’s deepening divisions and uncertain future.
“My decision to resign is based on the fact that supporters across the 168 wards in the state, at one point or another, have expressed fear of the unknown, and urged me out of urgency and concern to withdraw my membership from the party due to the ongoing crisis and divisions that appear unresolved,” Nyameh stated in the letter.
Despite leaving the PDP, Nyameh reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Taraba State and Nigeria at large, saying his political vision remains unchanged.
“My commitment to building a better Taraba and a greater nation remains unwavering. The passion and vision I carried while in the PDP will continue to drive me wherever I find myself, by God’s grace,” he added.
His resignation, as observed by Daily Post, will not doubt spark fresh political realignments in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections, as stakeholders have begun recalibrating their strategies in response to the shifting political landscape.
