Tantalizers Partners US Consortium To Boost Seafood Exports

Tantalizers Plc has announced a major expansion into the country’s blue economy with the acquisition of 10 state-of-the-art trawlers and a strategic partnership with a U.S.-based marine consortium.

This move marks a significant milestone in the company’s diversification strategy, aimed at tapping into new growth opportunities across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.

According to the company’s notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited seen by THE WHISTLER, the newly acquired trawlers, equipped with cutting-edge deep-sea fishing technology, will play a pivotal role in boosting Nigeria’s seafood industry.

Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Tantalizers Plc and the U.S. consortium, the trawlers will be delivered from their current bases in Honduras and New Bedford, USA, by May 2025. The company’s new subsidiary, Tantalizers Fisheries Limited, will oversee operations, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global seafood value chain.

In addition to fleet expansion, Tantalizers Plc has formalized a partnership with the U.S. fisheries consortium, chaired by Mr. Charles Quinn. With decades of expertise in sustainable fishing, seafood processing, and global distribution, the consortium will provide technical support, operational training, and access to international markets.

The agreement also facilitates technology transfer and ensures compliance with global best practices in sustainable fishing and seafood processing, bolstering Nigeria’s ability to meet international export standards.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of Tantalizers Plc, Mr. Rob Speijer, emphasized the company’s vision for transformation. “This acquisition and partnership will position Tantalizers Plc as a Nigerian multinational, strengthening our footprint as a fully diversified ‘foodtainment conglomerate’ with interests in entertainment, quick-service restaurants, fisheries, seafood processing, and export,” he stated.

Chairman of Quinn Fisheries and Harvester Fishing, Mr. Charlie Quinn expressed optimism about the collaboration. “Nigeria has always been on our radar as a valuable source of protein for the American market. This partnership and the deployment of 10 trawlers will give us a strong foothold in the West African Ocean’s rich aquatic resources. We are excited to see this vision come to life with Tantalizers Plc,” he said.

In a further step towards strengthening its presence in the seafood industry, Tantalizers Plc has commenced groundwork for establishing a seafood processing and cold chain facility in Nigeria. This facility will enhance value addition, quality control, and product traceability—key factors for gaining access to premium export markets in Europe, Asia, and North America.
