An unidentified man suspected to be a vandal was on Thursday electrocuted at a power transformer at Ehi Road in Aba, Abia State.

His lifeless body was found at the scene with jackknife and pliers, suggesting that he may have been electrocuted while attempting to steel important components of the transformer.

Some residents of Aba who reacted to the development, recalled how power installations in their own areas were destroyed in the past by vandals.

However, others called for thorough investigation to unravel the identity of the victim and how he actually died.

Confirming the development to DAILY POST on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said the matter was reported to the police on 24th July, 2025 by one Okorie Agu of 132 Ehi Road, Aba, in company of two other persons.

She said they reported that an unidentified man who went to vandalize a transformer was electrocuted at No.132 Ehi Road, Aba. The PPRO explained that operatives from the Command visited the crime scene.

She further said that Aba Power LTD was contacted before the corpse of the man was evacuated and taken to St. Anthony Hospital’s Mortuary, Aba.

The police spokesperson said investigation is ongoing on the matter.
