Suspected burglar lynched by mob in Gwagwalada
A suspected burglar lost his life on Sunday morning after he was severely beaten by a mob in Gwaka Village, located within Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident reportedly occurred around 7:00 a.m. when the man, whose identity remains unknown, was allegedly caught trying to break into a shop at the village market using a master key.
According to eyewitness, the suspect’s suspicious behavior caught the attention of traders and local youths, who swiftly confronted him.
What began as a confrontation quickly escalated, with the mob attacking the man using sticks and various crude weapons, leaving him unconscious before security personnel could intervene.
A local leader promptly alerted security operatives as the situation spiraled out of control.
The suspect was later taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, UATH but doctors confirmed he was dead on arrival.
His body has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for identification and autopsy.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident and are urging residents to refrain from resorting to mob justice.
