Sultan Declares Monday First Day Of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has Declared Monday, August 25, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH for the 2025.

The Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Junaidu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Junaidu said the declaration followed reports from the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moon sighting Committee, which confirmed that no sighting of the new crescent was received from Moon sighting Committees across the Country on Saturday, 23rd August, corresponding to 29th Safar 1447AH.

He further explained that Sunday, 24th August, would therefore be the 30th Day of Safar, making Monday the First Day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.

“His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has accepted the report, and accordingly declared Monday, 25″ August, 2025 as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH,” the statement stated.

Rabi’ul Awal 1447AH marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), known as Mawlid un-Nabi or Eid Milad un-Nabi. It is commemorated by many Muslims worldwide as a time of celebration, gratitude, and reflection on the life and teachings of the Prophet.

The sultan had on Friday urged the Muslim worshipers to look out for the moon on Saturday.
