Stop Hijacking Police Jobs, PSC Warns Governors
Ahead of the 2025 Cadet ASPs and Constables recruitment exercise, the Police Service Commission (PSC) warned state governments to stop hijacking police recruitment slots allocated to states.
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), issued the warning at a stakeholders’ consultative meeting with representatives of the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
The meeting, themed “Collaborative Approach for a Transparent and Equitable Police Recruitment Process”, took place in Abuja.
Argungu stated that while the Commission will collaborate with state governments to ensure a transparent and equitable recruitment process, it will not tolerate any hijacking of the exercise in the states.
He said, “The Commission has decided to eradicate connivance and resist the trading/purchase of slots.
“Special consideration will not be allowed to supplant merit and equity.
“We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread.”
He also urged state governments to form constructive and impactful partnerships with the Commission to eliminate corruption in the recruitment process.
Representing the Judiciary, retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Honourable Commissioner Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, assured that the exercise would not be hijacked.
He said, “The Commission was established for equity and fairness in Police Recruitment and operations and will henceforth ensure that nobody is allowed to hijack the forthcoming recruitment.
“We will rely on you to confirm that those to be recruited are from your states.”
The Commissioner representing the Police in the Commission, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), stated that the new management is committed to reinventing a recruitment process that will produce the “best Nigerian youths for the Nigeria Police of our dream.”
The Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, reaffirmed the Commission’s plan to establish “state offices” to effectively carry out its constitutional mandate.
He appealed to state governments for their support, according to the statement by PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani.
