Stakeholders Urged to Collaborate for Women's Economic Empowerment in Nigeria

Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, has called on relevant stakeholders to unite in advancing the National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy.

Speaking at a recent meeting during the 24th Session of the National Council on Women Affairs in Jos, Plateau State, Aduda emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure women’s empowerment across Nigeria.

He described the WEE Policy as a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing women’s participation in various sectors, including agriculture and leadership.

Aduda urged states to domesticate and implement the policy effectively to reach grassroots levels, highlighting that addressing barriers to education, finance, and leadership is crucial for unlocking women’s potential and driving national progress.

During the discussion, Mrs Blessing Anunike, Director of Economic Services, noted that the policy promotes a multi-sectoral approach to economic empowerment, aiming to bridge existing disparities faced by women.

Furthermore, Mrs Rinmicit Temlong-Aboki from the Albright Stonebridge Group stressed the need for state ministries to develop policies that reflect local conditions to achieve the policy’s objectives.

The National WEE Policy, launched in May 2023, represents a significant step towards bridging economic gaps for women in Nigeria, empowering them to participate fully in the nation’s development.

In a related development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Nigeria’s new Minister of Women’s Affairs has outlined her vision to support women, children, and vulnerable populations during her inaugural handover ceremony in Abuja.

Focusing on closing the gender gap and advancing women’s empowerment, she detailed her plans for skill development, employment opportunities, and enhanced political participation.
She also vowed to strengthen child protection against abuse and trafficking, appealing for collective action from stakeholders to achieve these goals.
