South-South APC adopts President Tinubu as sole candidate for 2027 election

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South-South geopolitical zone on Saturday adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

DAILY POST reports that the party adopted president Bola Tinubu at its stakeholders meeting held in Benin City with the theme, “Renewed Hope in Action: Strengthening APC Mobilization and Governance in the South-South”.

The stakeholders meeting attended by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, other National Assembly members, governors, ministers, Heads of Federal Government’s agencies, House of Assembly members among others on the platform of the party also adopted the governors of the party as sole candidates for a second term.

The communique read by Victor Giadom, the National Vice Chairman of APC, South-South said the South-South stakeholders of the party unanimously adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election because of his infrastructural development and his uncommon renewed hope agenda which has been benefiting the region especially in the areas of infrastructural development.

The party, which commended the governors of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa-Ibom state Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for the courage in joining the party, however, advised their counterparts in Bayelsa, Governor Duoye Diri and
Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers states to follow suit for the interest and development of the region.

It said the unanimous adoption of the president as the party’s sole presidential candidate and the four APC governors in the region for the 2027 general elections was in appreciation of their good governance.

It also commended Nyesom Wike, for making the region proud by supporting President Tinubu and transforming the Federal Capital Territory , FCT, Abuja..

The motion for the adoption of the communique was moved by Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Leader in the House of Representatives and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the host Governor, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State noted that the South-South region is gradually coming back to its footing in terms of good governance following the support of President Tinubu.

Okpebholo, urged the governors in the region that have not embraced APC to do so in order for the region to be united and speak in one voice

In his remarks, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Ali Bukar Dalori, who commended the South-South leadership of the party for the meeting, added that the President Tinubu-led APC government have no intention of turning Nigeria into a one party state.

Dalori who said there is no vacancy in Aso Rock comes 2027, called on the people of the South-South to remain united and continue to support the president’s renewed hope agenda policies.

On his part, the senate President, Godswill Akpabio, appealed to the party in the geopolitical zone to speak with one voice.

While noting that the region laid the golden egg, he added that it has every right to decide who shares the egg with them.

“We must prepare ahead of the 2027 presidential and general election. We should all long for an inclusive government not only in the country but also in the South-South. Let us ensure that APC remains the party of progress”, he added.

Akpabio who boasted that the entire region would soon come under the control of the APC, also hinted that the Governors Siminialayi Fubara and Duoye Diri of Bayelsa and Rivers States might soon join the party.

He said the people of South-South region are in 100 percent in support of President Tinubu’s reelection bid in spite of some few people who are coming together in the name of coalition.

Present at the meeting were Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Governors Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa-Ibom, Prince Bassey Edet of Cross Rivers and Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was represented by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme, National working committee members from the regions, ministers among others.

DAILY POST reports that the APC elected governors under the aegis of the Progressive Governors Forum had last Saturday held a two-day strategic regional meeting in Benin City also hosted by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
