Sokoto Cleric Seeks Financial Help, Says Bandits Fed Dogs With Our Kidnapped Driver’s Flesh

An Islamic scholar in Sokoto state, Sheikh Bashar Danfili, has requested financial assistance from the public after bandits kidnapped six of his relatives on their way to an undisclosed location in the state.

On Thursday, a group of terrorists known locally as bandits reportedly kidnapped Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, a famous Islamic preacher, and five members of his family in Sokoto State and murdered the driver.

According to local security authorities, terrorists approached the cleric’s car when he was travelling with his family in Nigeria’s northwest region.

In a brief video posted to social media, the cleric named the victims as a man, his mother, stepmother, two wives, and a sister.

He claimed the kidnappers called in for ransom to be paid to secure their release.

“The bandits have kidnapped my close relatives. I don’t want to disclose their names,” he said.

He explained that, “They were on their way to a village when they were attacked and kidnapped.

“Their driver was killed on the spot and the bandits fed their dogs with his flesh.

“But the rest are still in captivity, including a husband, his mother, stepmother, two wives and his sister,” he added.

He stated that, “The bandits have demanded a huge amount of money, which runs into millions of Naira. We cannot raise it.

“I am a scholar, I don’t have anything. My job is only to teach people with the books that you can see behind me.

“And they gave us a deadline within which the money must be paid or they would kill all of them.

“I know they can do that, looking at what happened recently to a traditional ruler in the state, who was killed by his abductors.” Danfili disclosed.

“Therefore, I am pleading for help from the general public so that we can be able to pay the ransom and get them released,” he said.

Security authorities have not reacted to the latest development in another kidnap incident to rock the state.
