Slot Pays Tribute To Klopp As Liverpool Win Premier League Title

Liverpool Arne Slot has paid tributes to former manager Jürgen Klopp after the club won their 20th Premier League title on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The Reds brushed aside Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday thanks to goals from Luis Diaz, Alexander Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohammed Salah, and an own goal by Destiny Udogie.

Slot, who took over from Jürgen Klopp in the summer, sang the praises of the German manager on the pitch after the victory.

He said: “I send my appreciation to Jürgen,” before breaking into the chant which the crowd immediately joined in with.

“It was clear we couldn’t lose this game. Everyone on the bus said, ‘There’s no way we’re going to lose this game.’”

“They always find a way to win. [I’m] incredibly proud, not only of the players but the people standing here — sport directors, my staff members — we should give them a big round of applause.

“Let’s forget it’s the second [title] in 35 years, it’s the second in five years!”

Slot became the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League title.

He described the feat as special, while hailing the team’s belief to become champions.

Slot said: “It is always special to win something and it is even more so if you are the first one.

“[Conceding first] wasn’t ideal but I trust my players. They always find a way to win. I don’t think we could have lost today if you were in this stadium.

“Our main focus was to win this game. Everyone was saying we had already won it. But we still felt the pressure to get the point over the line.

“Almost the whole season we were in the top of the league and had a team that could win it. We know how tough the Premier League is, but we always had the belief we could win it.

“The work Jurgen [Klopp] and Pep [Lijnders] left, the culture, work rate, quality, was outstanding. We started [the season] really well and maybe it helped that City had a difficult spell that they have not had in five years.

“When the season started we would have been happy with the top four. But I don’t think that is fair on the players as they are much better than that and they have shown it this season.”

Similarly, Liverpool talisman Mohammed Salah described the title-winning triumph as incredible.

He said: “It is incredible to win this with our fans. This is 100% better than last time [in 2020], especially with the fans. We have a different group now so to show we can do it again is something special.

“You can see the numbers. Now I don’t have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said ‘as long as you rest me defensively I will provide offensively’, so I am glad that I did. He listened a lot and you can see the numbers.”

Liverpool captain, Virgil Van Dijk, said the club will never take the title for granted.

He said: “It’s special and it’s something that we don’t take for granted. It’s amazing, what today was.

“A lot of emotions before the game, during the whole week. We got the job done and we truly deserve to be champions of England.

“[It’s] the most beautiful club in the world. I think we deserve all of this. Let’s enjoy the next couple of weeks and let it sink in.

Mohammed Salah’s goal was the 185th of his Premier League career, making him the league’s top-scoring foreign player.
