The Osun State Police Command has arrested six male suspected cultists during three separate sting operations at different locations across the state.

The command made this known in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, on Friday in Osogbo.

The suspects arrested were Taiwo Oluwatobi, aka Orife, 29, and Oluwabusuyi Ajayi, aka Aga, 29.

Others arrested were Ayodeji Ismail, 20, Owolabi Omobolaji, 20, David Oluwatomisin, 26, and Kolawole Segun, 22, all members of the Aiye Confraternity.

Gotan, in the statement, said the arrests came because of an onslaught launched against cult activities and other vices in the state.

He said, “On August 21, 2025, at about 6:30 pm, during the student union week in one of the higher institutions in the state, upon intelligence-led and pro-active policing, the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command arrested two suspected notorious cultists namely, Taiwo Oluwatobi, aka Orife and Oluwabusuyi Ajayi, aka Aga.

“They confessed to being members of Aiye Confraternity and Buccaneer Confraternity (Alora) respectively.

“In the same vein, on August 19, 2025, acting on credible information received that some hoodlums suspected to be members of Aiye Confraternity were terrorising the residents of Okuku town and environs, police detectives from the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command moved swiftly to the town where four suspects were apprehended namely, Ayodeji Ismail, 20, Owolabi Omobolaji, 20, David Oluwatomisin, 26, and Kolawole Segun, 22.”

According to the statement, all the suspects who confessed to being members of the Aiye confraternity during interrogation, will be charged in court upon completion of investigation.

The Osun police boss further said, “In another development, upon information received that some armed hoodlums suspected to be members of Eiye confraternity led by one Gafari, were terrorising the residents of Gbeja area, Oke-Baale Osogbo, police detectives from Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command swung into action and moved to the scene. On sighting the security operatives, the suspects fled the scene.

“The following exhibits were recovered from their hideout: one cut-to-size single-barrel gun; one cut-to-size double-barrel gun; five sharp cutlasses; one axe; and three live cartridges. Efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.”
