Shehu Sani Tackles El-Rufai Over Attacks On Kaduna Governor

Shehu - Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has fired back at former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of hypocrisy over allegations that Governor Uba Sani collected N150bn from Tinubu and refused to disclose it to the people of Kaduna State.

The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, had launched a scathing attack on his successor, Uba Sani, accusing him of sycophancy and pandering to President Bola Tinubu for personal gain.

El-Rufai’s criticism followed Sani’s remarks during a TVC News interview on Monday, where the governor expressed surprise at the growing criticism of Tinubu’s administration from some founding members of the All Progressives Congress.

Reacting via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, El-Rufai alleged that Sani’s unwavering support for Tinubu was linked to over N150bn in federal reimbursements received by Kaduna State in the past 18 months.

However, in a scathing response on his Facebook on Wednesday, Sani, former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, countered that El-Rufai’s administration was also opaque, citing the $350 million World Bank loan given to Kaduna State, whose expenditure remains unclear.

Sani listed several funds collected by El-Rufai’s administration, including Paris Refund, Excess Crude funds, Ecological funds, and special grants, which were not disclosed to the public.

“The Ex-Governor of Kaduna State accused the Present Governor of Collecting ‘N150 Billion’ from Tinubu and refusing to disclose it to the people of the state,” Sani wrote. “Let’s recall history and find the answers.”

Sani’s response was seen as a direct attack on El-Rufai’s credibility, with many interpreting it as a case of “the pot calling the kettle black.”

The former lawmaker wrote, “The Ex-Governor of Kaduna State accused the Present Governor of Collecting “N150 Billion” from Tinubu and refusing to disclose it to the people of the state. Let’s recall history and find the answers.

“The Ex-Governor collected millions of Dollars in Paris Refund from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the people of the state.

“He collected Billions of Excess Crude funds from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the Kaduna public.

“He collected Billions in Ecological funds from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the Kaduna People.

“He collected Billions of special grants from BUHARI through the CBN and never disclosed it to the Kaduna public.

“He collected stamp duties in Billions from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the people of the state.”

Sani continued, “He collected Billions from a commercial Bank and mortgaged the state IGR and never disclosed it to the Kaduna people.

“There is nobody in Kaduna state who can confidently hold his Holy Book and swear that he or she knows how every kobo of Kaduna’s $350 million World Bank loans was spent, Until the Kaduna Assembly probe.

“If the present Governor actually refused to disclose the mythical “150 billion”, he must have learned it from the Ex Governor. The ex Governor is coming to equity with dirty hands.

“If the Present Governor is supporting Tinubu because of money, can we say that the former one was supporting and kneeling down for Buhari for the same reason?

“The man with a body odour is accusing another of having a mouth odour.

“The ex-Governor also accused the present Governor of betrayal. It’s simply a case of the Legend of betrayal being outsmarted by the grand guru.”

The exchange highlights the ongoing rift between El-Rufai and Uba Sani, with Sani backing the current governor.
